By adminEner.co HVAC equipment coil retrofit saves facility $57,020 per year in energy costs.
Project Scope
Ener.co implemented comprehensive HVAC coil energy savings retrofits and the customized Energy Performance Dashboard at New York Blood Center’s Long Island City facility. To date, Ener.co has treated the facility’s entire existing capacity of air-cooled cooling equipment.
Project Summary
In winter 2015-16, Ener.co performed its comprehensive energy saving retrofit measure on the condenser coil on 523 tons of air-cooled cooling equipment at the New York Blood Center facility located in Long Island City. In this project, Ener.co upgraded 30 air-cooled condensers by treating their coils with high efficiency Enercoat™ technology. Total savings was determined under M&V IPMVP® Option B Protocol. The net energy savings achieved by the coil treatment amounted to 122% of the initial energy savings projection. Treatment improved airflow, improved moisture removal, enhanced heat transfer, and produced a permanent reduction of compressor and fan power consumption.
-
Energy Savings
Annual electric savings equaled $57,020 or 259,400 kWh. Peak power demand was reduced by 31 kW.
-
GHG Reduction
With this project the client reduces their annual green house gas emissions by 130 tons.
-
Investment
Project cost including HVAC improvements and the installation of calibrated sensors on 30 individual units which provide real-time data to the Energy Performance Dashboard totaled $112,377.
-
Financial Return
The project is on track to pay itself back completely from energy savings in 21 months. As of project close date the treated coils have produced $41,737 in savings and are on track to produce an additional $724,740 over the next 10 years.
-
Other Benefits
Extended life of the coil assembly. Increased heat transfer efficiency. Improved thermal comfort and humidity removal. Reduced frequency of compressor and fan motor replacement.
