Actavis , Elizabeth, New Jersey
By adminEner.co HVAC equipment retrofit saves facility $24,137 in year one in energy costs.
Project Scope
Ener.co implemented comprehensive HVAC coil energy savings retrofits and the customized, Cloud-based Energy Performance Dashboard at Actavis’ pharmaceutical laboratory.
Project Summary
In the fall of 2015, Ener.co performed its comprehensive energy saving retrofit measure on the condenser coil of 200 ton air-cooled chiller equipment at Actavis’ pharmaceutical plant located in Elizabeth, New Jersey. In this project, Ener.co upgraded the chiller’s air-cooled condenser by treating the coils with high efficiency Enercoat™ technology. Total savings was determined under M&V IPMVP® Option B Protocol. The net energy savings achieved by the coil treatment amounted to 100% of the initial energy savings projection. Treatment dramatically improved airflow, increased cooling capacity, enhanced heat transfer, improved laboratory processing conditions, and produced a permanent reduction of compressor and fan peak power consumption.
-
Energy Savings
Annual electric savings equaled $15,342 or 109,588 kWh. Peak power demand was reduced by 12.5 kW.
-
GHG Reduction
With this project the client reduces their annual green house gas emissions by 54 tons.
-
Investment
Project cost including HVAC improvements and the monitoring system totaled $33,896.
-
Financial Return
The project is on track to pay itself back completely from energy savings in 1.3 years. The facility’s decision to treat the coils has put it on track to produce an additional $229,057in energy savings over the next 10 years.

Other Benefits
Improvement in cooling. Permanent peak demand reduction. Extended life of the coil assembly. Increased heat transfer efficiency. Improved thermal performance. Reduced frequency of compressor and fan motor replacement.
